Today's Verse of the Day

Philippians 2:1-2: If therefore there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Tips To Being A Godly Pastor

1. Release God's sheep onto Him after pouring into their lives. Do not hold onto them. Do not carry their burdens and problems - They are for Jesus to carry.

2. Do not base your identity around the flock God has given you. Base your identity around Christ.

3. Have your daily quiet time for you to stay fresh and grow in the Lord.

4. Recognize your brokenness. Allow God's Spirit to come and heal you.

5. Do not take your position as a pastor lightly. Live in the standard God's Spirit has for you. See James 3.

6. Pray for your sheep daily. Pray for God's growth and protection for them.

7. Encourage your flock. Love them through Jesus.

8. Have a servant's heart. Don't put yourself on display.

9. Continue to rely on the leading of the Holy Spirit in your life and ministry.

10. Don't let your ministry become an idol in your life. Be grateful for what the Lord has been entrusted into your care. Carefully watch over and guard His flock.

11. Challenge others by your words and your actions, but do not stumble others by the way you live.

12. Whatever ministry God is calling you to He will equip you for it.

13. Teach your congregation who Jesus is. Make it personal. God may seem distant. Sharing Jesus and the fact that He is the one who bridged the way for our eternal destination is a way for people to accept Him as their Saviour.

14. Teach the Bible in a way that people are able to apply it to their lives. Don't make it some text book that is theory only. Challenge people to experience the reality that Jesus is Lord by a study of the Word in their own lives.

15. Break through your cultures barrier to the gospel by living and responding to others in the love of Jesus.

16. Pacing yourself allows the grace to deal with the pressing issues first and spreading out the remainder of the work over several sessions.

17. Your ministry should not be at the expense of your family, but rather an extension of your life.

18. When on retreats with members of your congregation as well as district conferences, etc. leave your hotel room clean. Place garbage in the containers provided and in a general sense keep the room clean. When possible leave a thank you note and a tip for the cleaner. Their wages are typically just above the minimum wage of the area you are visiting and require your tip so they may "get ahead" in life.

19. Being able to clearly give directions.

20. 2 Timothy 2:24-26 "And the Lord's bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will."
