You can't do it alone. There are so many needs in the body of Christ. Each congregation or para church ministry target audience represents different needs. Pray for and appoint God given leaders from your community to oversee the different components of your ministry. Being in ministry isn't a one man show. It takes a devoted team bathed in prayer. Release prayer partners to pray for God's hand upon the ministry. As they pray the Holy Spirit will be at work along side of those in leadership roles. At the same time those in leadership positions needs to pray for direction so they are sensitive to the Holy Spirit's work.
Don't over use people. People are willing to volunteer if there is a position for them to fill that they are equipped to fill. I have seen different times how there are some key people who will give and give and give. Monitor how much work you delegate out to individuals so no one will become burned out and turn away from God. Have devotional times among those in leadership as a means of growth, encouragement and unity. Check in with volunteers that their lives are in order and pray for them at the same time.
People need to feel they belong. With Jesus as the center of a ministry it will blossom. How are you able to make people feel welcomed in attending your ministry sponsored events? Church dinners and other social activities are able to bring unity in your church body. As the unity develops during social times when you come together to pray and worship you will see God move in power and at work in the lives you are caring for. In the book of Acts we read how the church was more then just services. They spent time taking care of the needs of the people. Work towards nurturing a family friendly environment.
Spend time visiting people. This lets people know you care. You aren't able to go see everyone each week but arrange time in your weekly schedule to be available for fellowship and pastoral care. As you spend time with the people in your ministry a strong bond of unity will occur among the membership. Being available shows you care about people. This is what Jesus would do. Arrange for some of the leadership team to be on call for pastoral care. Allow those who are gifted in this area to be available to visit families so no individual will burn out. Have them report back to you as well as trusting their judgement if you should pay a visit to a particular family yourself.
Don't cause the ministry to be dependent upon you. Don't place the congregation in bondage to you. Instead work along side of their goals and pray for the Lord's vision and direction. The church has to continue on when you are moved by God to another venue. Allow people to learn leadership skills. It is better for you to have a one day workshop on how to lead and train others then to do it all yourself. Doing this will also allow your health to be strong instead of burning out.
Allow room for communication between your congregation and yourself. Don't be on a power trip or someone that is "out there" and "high and mighty". When the people trust you they will bring others to your events because they belong and feel safe. They will want to share with others the good thing they have found. Let Jesus shine through you and welcome others as they visit. Having response cards are an excellent way to communicate with those in leadership positions. Help people feel comfortable using them. Saying things such as "If we may pray for you, if you would like a visit or if you are visiting this week please fill out a response card so we may follow up with you." Then take the time to follow up. People will try a new thing but you need to keep your word. As the members of your ministry know you care about them they will watch over your ministry and God will use this to shape the community to maturity in Christ.
