Today's Verse of the Day

Romans 13:13-14: Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts. (NASB)

Living In A Terrorized World

Living in a terrorised world requires us to see ourselves as children of God and to understand our identity that is found in Jesus. When we accept Jesus as our Saviour we acknowledge that we need help and that we aren’t able to do it on our own. It is His strength we are able to rely on and have as a solid foundation in our lives. To do this we need to see our lives from His perspective and not just through our own.

Prayer is a very powerful tool. Prayer is two-way communication with God. We both bring our needs to Him as well as respond in faith to what the Holy Spirit is saying to us.

We bring our needs to Him so we don’t get weighed down and depressed from life. Life is too hard to make it on your own. There is no true hope in this life other then the hope that is found in having a personal relationship with Jesus. Prayer keeps us renewed in the same way you need to shine your dress shoes. Over time if you don’t shine your shoes they will become dull and shabby looking. This is what happens to us when we keep the burdens to ourselves and aren’t in right standing with the Lord.

This involves praying “Jesus I was wrong and I receive your forgiveness.” Without an active prayer life bitterness and anger will over take your life. The only true source of freedom from both of these is accepting the grace offered to you when Jesus took your place on the cross. By Jesus’ death He voluntarily took your infirmities, burdens and the weight of life so you would prosper in this life on earth. Praying “I receive your grace, love and mercy” is a prayer accepting Jesus in His rightful place in your life.

Responding in faith is living out the scriptures in your life. This involves an ongoing study of the Word of God – the Bible – in your life. This is how you are able to know the voice of God in your life. This is how you are able to know His direction for you in your life. The Spirit of God will plant desires in you so strong you will know it is from Him and when you step out in faith you will see Him back you up as His child. Desires are spoken to you in prayer as you pray over the topic you have been studying during your devotional time with the Lord each day. This keeps you fresh in the Lord by having Him as your source of confidence.

James 1:5-8 says it to us this way:

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. (NASB)

The Spirit of God will give you the boldness to step out in faith when you are confident and sure. That is the time to respond to His nudging. If unsure God says to wait and pray until you are fully convinced. Then is the time to respond to His call in your life.

Living in a terrorised world requires the solid foundation found in Jesus in order to have a clear mind, purpose and direction in life. Without this foundation you will be caught up in the trials of life and have no true purpose in your life.

Jesus I accept your gift of salvation and I pray for the leading of the Holy Spirit in my life. Amen
